Easy Chocolate Cake Recipes

Who doesn’t love chocolate cake? I think one of my favorite cakes is chocolate cake with a raspberry filling and white frosting.

I’m always on the lookout for non dairy chocolate recipes. I found a very easy to make non dairy chocolate cake recipe that gets compliments every single time:

1 cups flour 1 cup white sugar 1 cup cold water 1/3 cup cocoa powder 1/3 vegetable shortening, or vegetable oil 1 tablespoon cider vinegar (do not use other vinegars, must be -cider vinegar-) 1 teaspoon vanilla 1 teaspoon baking soda teaspoon salt

Combine flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda and salt. Add shortening and mix in. Add vinegar to water and then add to the rest of mixture a little bit at a time, beating well after each addition. Add vanilla and mix. Pour into greased/wax paper-lined cake pan and bake at 350 degrees for about 30 minutes.

If you like sour cream, this recipe is wonderful. The sour cream helps make the cake moist and gives it a wonderful flavor:

16 ounces unsweetened baking chocolate (I melt the chocolate very lightly in the microwave) 1/4 cup butter softened 1 2/3 cups boiling water 2 1/3 cups flour 2 cups white sugar 1/2 cup sour cream 2 eggs 2 teaspoons baking soda 1 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon vanilla

Preheat oven to 350 F. Grease and flour a 13 x 9 x 2 inch baking pan. In large bowl, mix chocolate, butter and water. Stir until mixture is smooth. Add flour, sugar, sour cream, eggs, baking soda, salt and vanilla. Using electric mixer beat on low until smooth. Pour batter into prepared pan. Bake 35 to 40 minutes or until center is done.

If you don’t like sour cream, try mayonnaise. The mayonnaise leaves the cake very moist and with a wonderful taste that most folks just can’t quite place. Do not substitute Miracle Whip or other salad dressing for the mayonnaise. The cakes do not taste quite right.

These are just two of the many recipes to make delicious yet easy chocolate cakes. Bon Appetite!!

How To Create A Healthy Glowing Skin By Drinking Coffee

The best way to have healthy, glowing skin is to start from the inside out. Eliminating caffeine in the form of coffee and soda is one way to start. Caffeine dehydrates the body and skin. And lack of moisture is a sure way to create lines and wrinkles. It’s also a diuretic, causing increased urine output, again depleting your body and skin of the moisture it needs. We try to combat this with moisturizers, but the better way is to put the moisture INTO your body, not on it.

Drinking pure water, unprocessed fruit juices or coconut milk will give your body and skin the hydration it needs. The colors in fruit juices are the colors of the earth and these colors will reflect themselves in warm and healthy skin tones.

The overall effects of caffeine on your body will manifest themselves in your skin. Heavy caffeine drinkers can experience osteoporosis, headaches, depression, sleeplessness. These can all be reflected in your skin.

When you replace colas, coffee and teas made with boiling water with water, fruit juices “sun tea” and coconut milk, you’ll soon start to feel better and sleep better. Your skin will reflect the good health of all the organs and cells of your body, once you’ve kicked the caffeine habit.

Another reason for drinking pure water, juices and “sun tea” is that when you boil water, you’re releasing oxygen from it. When the body rids itself of toxins, it passes through the skin which is the largest elimination organ. Raw food increases your detoxification rate. Drinking water helps the body rid itself of toxins. Seaweed is high in vitamins and minerals beneficial to the skin and also helps rid the body of toxins.

To achieve a healthy complexion, drink plenty of water and eat plenty of raw food. What goes into your body is reflective in your overall appearance.

As well as the higher acid levels, the concentration of urinary citrate, a compound that inhibits the growth of kidney stones, was 25 percent lower. People having a diet high in protein may also become dehydrated, which concentrates the urine and may contribute to kidney stone development. Individuals who are on a normal diet and develop kidney stones are often advised to cut back their consumption of poultry, meat and fish protein in a attempt to avoid future kidney stones.

Cool vibes from the home herb garden

I associate having a home herb garden with the handiness, freshness and saving that leaves me at liberty to produce delectable meals time after time.

Yes, you may harvest your own food flavouring with a homegrown, pesticide-free and delectable home herb garden and here are a few beneficial essential tips to aid you get the most out of this gardening experience.

This rising “eat local” drive may have inspired you to investigate the origins of products at the grocery store, however why not produce your own herbs this season? And, considering the situation, this brings back a more “local” output of these fine herbs straight to your home.

Another value is a fresher, more powerful flavor. Herbs taste greatly better as you grow your own and utilize them fresh. Thought well known for culinary usage, herbs are also used for herbal teas, aromatherapy and a quantity of craft projects such as potpourri, perfumed soaps and candles.

A novice herb grower may care to start with just a few herbs that are used frequently. Here’s how to start a flavorful little plot.

When choosing the herbs you will grow, consider of the ones you obtain most often for yourself and these can be the ones to embed in your home herb garden. If you relish cooking Mexican or Thai food then cilantro possibly could be a good choice; for pasta sauce, you could opt for basil and oregano; The quickly spreading mint plant is the herb to produce if you mix mojitos often.

Most of the widespread herbs such as basil, oregano and rosemary require full sun, but make certain you thoroughly read the instructions that come with your plant or seeds before planting. If you plan to step outside the kitchen to pick a variety of leaves of the fitting plants when preparing meals, you will find that growing these herbs by the kitchen to be especially convenient.

If you’re planting in pots, get a soil that drain well and be sure you alter it with the nutrients your herbs would receive if they were planted outside in the ground.

A herb garden does not suggest the use of scores of gardening tools. Start with a digger and a pair of pruning shears to serve you care for your herbal plants. Herbs are little plants and you may look after them just with your fingers. A trowel and a decent shovel for turning the soil possibly could also be advantageous and plant stakes will help you to recall what you’ve planted especially when your plants are still modest.

When tending to these new herbs, the watering at a given occasion is a misunderstood element that is frequently encountered. Problems and other health concerns are very much frequently caused by a imperfect watering habit.

One straight forward way to regulate the watering need of the garden is to bury your finger in the ground half an inch to an inch down. Retrieving a dry finger means you need to water them immediately while a dampened finger show there is still adequate water in the earth to satisfy the plants. To helps preserve moisture in the soil, the use of a effective compost and a layer of mulch will contribute greatly.

Get A Grill Brush That Won’t Scratch Your Porcelain Enamel BBQ Grates

One typical problem when getting a BBQ grill brush is whether it will scratch your cooking grid. The last thing you want is to scratch the grates of your pricey Weber grill. Thankfully, with just a little bit of study it is extremely easy to ensure you purchase the best grill brush for your BBQ.

How fragile you grate is, and how vulnerable it might be to damage and scratching, is based upon the material the grate is made from. The most tough material that is commonly used is stainless steel. These grates are extremely tough and resistant to rust and corrosion. Porcelain covered grill grates, on the other hand, are far more fragile. The porcelain coat is relatively brittle and can chip and split. No only does this lower the non stick capability of the grate, it also exposes the metal beneath the enamel to moisture. Cast iron grill grates are extremely tough, yet must be kept oiled to avoid rusting.

Many grill brushes are perfectly safe for use with the majority of grills, yet there is one significant exception. NEVER use a scraper on porcelain coated grill grates! That will definitely lead to you chipping the porcelain enamel. Apart from that, the majority of brushes are fine with the majority of grates.

The 2 most typical materials used to make the bristles for barbecue grill brushes are brass and stainless steel. Brass is softer, so less likely to scratch the grates, yet this softness also means the bristles become flattened a lot more quickly. Because of this, brass grill brushes need to be replaced regularly. Stainless steel grill brushes are a lot more durable, because of their stiffer bristles. Nonetheless, this added stiffness means that they can sometimes scratch the grate. This is why people often recommend brass grill brushes for porcelain enamel coated grill grates.

So which kind of brush should you purchase to clean your porcelain enamel coated grill grate?

My advice is to choose a stainless steel grill brush with bristles thin enough not to cause damage. The usual belief that you can only use brass bristled grill brushes for porcelain enamel coated grates is not in fact true. Many stainless steel grill brushes are perfectly safe to use. Since they will certainly last much longer compared to brass grill brushes, my recommendation is to choose one of these. That way, you get a brush that will not only safely clean your BBQ, but will also last a long time. To get even more life out your BBQ brush, only clean the grate when it’s hot. This will make it easy to clean, enabling you to use much less pressure, which ultimately means that your bristles will remain in great condition much longer.

Kolkata Food & Culture Of Bengalies

A crowded, bustling metropolis, Kolkata (once called Calcutta, and the capital of West Bengal) is known as the City of Joy for mostly unknown reasons, but it sure is one, given how quickly its charm reaches out to anybody who enters this old city. Bengalis are great hosts, and it is always a good idea to stay at someone’s house rather than at a hotel.

Each city has the impressions that it has conveyed best, and Kolkata does, too. If you didn’t like seafood, you definitely will once you visit Kolkata, and if you didn’t like intellectual conversations over chai at an adda, you are sure to develop a tendency for them by the end of your stay. Bengalis love their fish, and they love their erudite conversations. (And we’ll come to a certain Tagore later.)

It would not then be a surprise that any discussion of the Kolkata food scene would revolve around seafood. Indeed, you would discover seafood all over again at Kolkata – Bengali women actually attribute significantly to their seafood diet, their fantastic skin and hair. There is a mind-boggling variety of fresh catch cooked in a variety of ways. Mustard oil is commonly used, and it is an acquired taste, so specify dietary preferences beforehand.

Rice is a staple part of the Kolkata/Bengali diet, and is eaten with fish almost everyday. Hilsa or ‘Ilis Maach’ is considered a delicacy despite all its bones. Chicken, fish and prawns are also commonly served.

It is however a false assumption that Bengali cuisine is primarily about fish, because even though it prides itself on its coastal cuisine, it has a terrific variety in vegetarian food. Vegetarian dishes include Aloo Poshto, Moshoor Dal, Jhinga Sabzi and Kofta curry, among many others.

A city with plenty of heritage structures and a lot of the colonial feel intact, Kolkata is great for tourists, and almost all through the year. But a great time to go is October’s Durga Puja, when the city is all decked up in lights to hail in Goddess Durga, the Hindu mother goddess. Apart from the throngs that lend even more vibrancy to the streets, there is also the enhanced shopping scene. Kolkata is known for its exquisite cottons and silks, and you can see a wide variety of these, primarily in saris – long cloths draped around the body. Indeed, Bengal is one of India’s major producers of cotton and silk, with Baluchari silk saris from Bengal being famous for depicting the sun, moon and stars in their warp and weft. Bengali women wear cotton saris on a regular basis, and silk saris for special occasions.

Kolkata is also one of the country’s oldest producers of jute, and today, with efforts to contemporise the product, you can find everything from jute jewellery to jute furniture and jute cell-phone pouches. The Kolkata yellow pages have several jute shops listed.

Terracotta, also typical of Kolkata, also moulds itself into an array of beautiful artefacts. From lampshades to jars and pots, and likenesses of the Goddess Durga, the potters cast them all in clay.

Kolkata is often also called the backyard of Indian art. From its soil have sprung several greats like Rabindranath Tagore, Jamini Roy, Ramkinker Baij, Bikash Bhattacharya, Paresh Maity and Devajyoti Ray. The Progressive Artists Group, who were followed by the Calcutta group, were the percusers of modern Indian art. The pseudo-realism school had its first exhibition in the city at the Birla academy.

Rabindra Sangeet and Nizrul Geeti are popular in every household, and music fests like the Dover Lane Music Festival are popular. Park Street has always been a legendary zone for jazz and cabaret, with singers like Usha Uthup rising from its clubs. Places like Mocambo, Moulinn Rouge etc. have an avid music-loving audience. Music is perhaps even more popular than movies in Kolkata.

Kolkata, known as Calcutta before its name was changed by the government, was once the capital of British India, before the British shifted the capital to Delhi because the heat of the freedom struggle was getting too hot to handle. West Bengal has been greatly influenced by Communist ideologies and had the longest running democratically-elected Communist government in the world till the Trinamul Congress came to power in 2011.

Given its intellectual profile, Kolkata is also expectedly known as the literary capital of India, and has several educational institutions that create the intellectual atmosphere. These include Jadhavphur University, Shantiniketan, Calcutta university, Presidency College and St. Xavier’s College. The student culture encourages ‘adda’ – hanging out – to discuss issues. Advertisements for debating clubs make their way into several Kolkata classifieds pages.

Calcutta loves sports, and football is the top favourite. Since time immemorial, Kolkata has kicked ball with clubs Mohun Bagan AC, East Bengal, Chirag United S. C. and Mohammedan Sporting Club, and is known as the Mecca of Indian Football. The Calcutta Football League, which started in 1898, is the oldest football league in Asia. Mohun Bagan AC, one of the oldest football clubs in Asia, is the only club to be termed “National Club Of India”. Of late, cricket, which was what Kolkata played in the gullies, has gained further in importance as Kolkata became home to the Kolkata Knight Riders IPL cricket team franchise. Rugby is also popular, as is rowing at the Sailing Club.

Visit Kolkata, take a boat ride on the Hooghly, and try to figure out why it’s called the City of Joy. It might just be worth it.

Finding The Perfect Beans And Roast For Your Coffee Maker

So you need a cup of coffee to get you going in the morning, and you are probably quite happy to drink whatever brews the cappuccino machines in the office are dispensing. If it’s hot, it smells like coffee and it gives you the necessary head rush to start your day, that’s all you need.

So it may astonish you to realise exactly how many different types and origins of coffee there are out there. Some people devote their entire careers to coffee tasting to find the perfect mix of beans to create just the right taste. These professional tasters are called cuppers and really know their coffee.

Centered on the equator, a band twenty five degrees to the north and south houses the seventy countries where coffee beans are grown. From South America and the Caribbean, to Africa and the Middle East, this strip around the centre of the globe provides just the right conditions for coffee plantations to thrive. Each country, and sometimes each area within the same country, produces beans with their own special characteristics to produce distinctive flavors.

The two main divisions of coffee beans are Arabica and Robusta. Robusta is the more potent of the two, with double the amount of caffeine. The Arabica beans have more taste and a pleasing fragrance, making them suitable for superior quality blends.

The Arabica bean is split again into two categories. The higher quality Milds, are grown at over three thousand feet, the perfect altitude for coffee growth. Brazils, not surprisingly a product of Brazil, are grown in larger quantities, at lower altitudes, on the many large plantations of the area.

When seeking the perfect coffee, most people choose ready roasted beans, although it is possible to buy the soft, green beans and roast them yourself. There are a number of categories of roast, from the light or cinnamon roast, which is strong and acidic, to the dark or city roast, a less bitter sweeter category, often used for espresso. In between is the medium or American roast, the standard used for everyday drinking and extremely popular.

Two other varieties of European roast are the full bodied French roast, and the very dark Italian roast, used in speciality espressos. Both of these are dark roasts and so the resulting brews are less acidic and sweeter than your average cup. The longer roasting process allows the sugars in the bean to caramelize and much of the bitter caffeine to burn away.

So next time you reach for a cup of the strong stuff to wake you up in the morning, take a minute to find out what goes into your coffee makers. Maybe consider what you really want in a coffee and spend some time looking for your perfect roast.

The Best Diet For Weight Loss Lets You Cheat

The Best Diet For Weight Loss Lets Your Cheat

Are you desperately in search of fast and easy weight loss tips and plans that could help you quickly reduce body weight? If you are one of the millions around the world looking for an effective and proven weight loss plan, you probably have ran into many other “run of the mill” exercise and diet for weight loss plans. Unfortunately, most programs are very ineffective in actually reducing body fat and helping you keep the weight off with a long-term, livable and “real-world” maintenance plan.

Most weight loss food plans tend to be extremely strict in diet for as long as you’re on them, making these weight loss plans essentially worthless as they force you to plan your life around healthy nutrition, instead of planning healthy nutrition around your life. As these diet plans strictly enforce a very specific way of eating (i.e. low-carb) for as long as you’re alive, over a period of time, you tend to lose interest in continuing these diet plans for weight loss. Rightfully so, most people totally lose interest in weight loss as all of us are tempted to eat our favorite foods at least once in a while. It’s just not reasonable to think that everyone can be “perfect” with his or her diet their entire life.

Though these hyped up plans advocate completely cutting out your favorite foods, they actually never help you accelerate the process of reducing fat, but rather increase body fat by making your body receptive to storing more of it. In a nutshell, cutting out your favorite foods is completely counter- productive. Did you know that “cheating” on your diet is the best way to accelerate fat burning? If this doesn’t sound right to you, then you need to take in this information with an open mind because you will miss out on some of the most unique, different and proven fat-burning tips that allow Karen and I to stay lean year-round and still enjoy our favorite foods at least once or twice a week.

To really reduce body fat, you have to take a day, or sometimes two days per week, off from your “diet for weight loss plan” and eat your favorite foods. Using this “Strategic Cheating” technique has many physical and psychological benefits. First of all, you are systematically programming your body to burn more fat. Cheating with your favorite foods increases your body’s level of Leptin, a very important hormone that initiates fat burning in the body.

Secondly, you are giving yourself at least one day during the week to indulge in your favorite foods, which makes it psychologically easier to follow your diet for weight loss life for a lifetime. There is actually no such thing as perfection when it comes to a fat-burning diet. You have to cheat and get yourself satisfied so that it’s psychologically easier for you to follow your nutrition and exercise plan the rest of the week. This is also beneficial because we all know that “life happens” and it’s impossible to always eat perfectly. Therefore, if you plan for family events, holidays, birthdays, etc. ahead of time, you can still eat your favorite foods, drink your favorite cocktails and still burn fat the rest of the week.

A healthy weight loss program should never deprive you of your favorite foods in the long-term. It should reward you for the consistent nutrition and exercise discipline that you follow MOST of the time by allowing you to eat your favorite foods at least once or twice a week. If you want to reduce fat, you MUST occasionally cheat with your favorite foods. It’s the only way you’ll be able to effectively burn fat and maintain your weight loss for the rest of your life.
